As well as the red squirrels and a whole range of birds, a family of Greater Spotted Woodpeckers have been feeding in the garden. Here the female prepares to drill the monkey nuts yet again. The male recently laid seige to my nesting box of Great Tits and made an aggressive effort to drill the entry hole bigger in order to gain access and eat the eggs inside. I fitted a metal plate and this has stopped the carnage just in time.
